In this week’s newsletter:

New & Old PTO Leadership

We hope you and your family had an amazing and re-energizing summer!  Although we still have a few more days left, and students are not actually back in the classrooms, we would like to welcome the entire Williams community back to school.

Between camps, beach days, and road trips this summer, the PTO has started planning an exciting year, filled with fun events – as well as informative ones – and plenty of gatherings and learning occasions to complement the terrific work of the teachers and staff at Williams.

We truly hope YOU will be a big part of our effort!

We are very excited to help serve our families, students and staff in this role, and we look forward to seeing old friends and new ones as the year begins.

Please feel free to stop us in the hallway or email us to introduce yourself, chat, or present us with any idea, comment or question that may arise.

We are happy to start the new year with 3 Co-Presidents:  Cristina MacMahon returns, and Sofia Hamula & Omer Mendelson have joined the team.

We also welcome Alix Mourier as the Treasurer for the PTO. Together we’re ready to help continue to make the Williams community as strong and as vibrant as ever.

We are also sad to say goodbye to our outgoing Presidents, Angie Abend and Joann Calcagno, but the legacies of their hard work and leadership and commitment to Williams are greatly treasured.  Grazie, Obrigada, Merci and Toda!!!

We also want to say a big THANK YOU to Jack Green for serving as Treasurer for the many years of hard work paying the bills, maintaining our budget and guiding us in smart financial decisions. We are so grateful!

Back to School Night – Sept 5!

Our annual Back to School information night for families will be held on September 5th. This evening is designed to provide parents/adult family members with the opportunity to meet Williams staff and hear from teachers about your child’s life and expectations in his/her class.  The schedule appears below. This event is intended for adults only and your questions are welcome. The schedule for the evening is as follows:

6:30 – 7:15   Grades 3-5 classroom presentations (in individual classrooms, unless stated otherwise)

7:20 – 7:40   Principal’s welcome, introduction of all staff (auditorium)

7:45 – 8:30   Grades K-2 classroom presentations (in individual classrooms unless stated otherwise)

Parent Welcome Coffee – Sept 6

All Williams parents are welcome to join us Friday at 8:30am for the Parent Welcome Coffee. This will be an opportunity to connect with returning Williams parents, welcome new families, and meet with the PTO Co-Presidents and our Principal Ms. Ayesha Farag. Coffee and pastries will be served. We hope you can make it!

Back To School Social – Saturday, September 14

Ice cream with friends… relax and watch a movie on the field while eating popcorn… you won’t want to miss it! All Williams students and families are invited to this favorite family event on Saturday, September 15th. Ice cream starts at 6:30pm. Cash or credit card accepted. The movie starts ~7:15pm (the forecasted sunset). Bring a chair or blanket. This isn’t a drop-off event. The school building will be closed (therefore…no bathrooms will be available). Students will vote on the movie choice sometime this week or next week during school.

Multicultural Night – Thursday, September 26

Williams Elementary is unique in Newton to have one of the most culturally diverse communities, and we want to celebrate this!

Multicultural Night is a FREE night of family fun! All Williams students and families are invited to this annual event on Thursday, September 26 from 6:00-7:30pm but its success truly depends on the involvement of our Williams families!

Families sign up to bring food, music, and introduce Williams’ families to their culture and background. In an hour and a half, our students and families travel around the world and learn all about our community’s roots.

However you choose to become a part of this wonderful night, be sure to join us in celebrating the diverse community we call home. More details are on the link. Sign up HERE to bring food for the potluck table or to represent your country!

Volunteer Opportunities

All parents and guardians of students at Williams School are members of the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). Parent involvement in the school is a fundamental part of what makes the school experience here so special. There are various volunteer opportunities during school (Art and Library class) and after school as well as vital behind-the-scenes tasks that working parents can do to help. Please click HERE to take a look at our volunteer opportunities and consider signing up! If you are interested in a position but not sure because you have lingering questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the PTO Presidents.
