New arrival and dismissal procedures at Williams

Below you will find important changes to our procedures.  Please note that there are different DISMISSAL procedures for students in grades K-2 and grades 3-5. In addition, you can find both a chart and a map that illustrate the process we will implement at the start of the year. You can expect to receive this information via US mail, as well, which will include hard copies of the map and chart attached to this email.

Arrival

  • The inlet or cut-out at the front of the school on Grove Street is reserved for school buses and vans only. Bus and van riders will enter school through the front doors.
  • Lasell Street and the parking lot at the back of the school is reserved for Williams faculty and staff.
  • Families may park and walk their child(ren) to the front or back doors. Per new security guidelines set forth by the district, parents will no longer be permitted to walk their child to their classroom.
  • Walkers may enter the building through either the front or back doors. Bikers should secure their bikes to the rack at the back of the school and enter the building through the back door
  • Families may conduct live drop-off in the designated Blue Zones at the front or back of the school. Live drop-off is when a driver pauses briefly in the Blue Zone to allow their child (ren) to exit the car and then continues to move through the line. Staff will be on hand to assist. Cars may not park in blue zones during arrival time. 

Dismissal

  • The inlet or cut-out at the front of the school on Grove Street is reserved for school buses and vans. Bus and van riders will be escorted to the bus/van through the front of the building.
  • Lasell St. and the parking lot at the back of the school is reserved for Williams faculty and staff.
  • All families will be asked to complete a dismissal plan that details how their child(ren) will depart school daily. Changes to the dismissal plan must be communicated with as much prior notice as possible.
  • All students in grades K-5 will be accompanied to and dismissed from the blacktop in the back of the school.
  • GRADES 3-5
    • Families/caregivers of students in grades 3-5 may meet their child on the blacktop OR give permission for their child(ren) to walk/bike home unaccompanied.
    • Car riders in grades 3-5 will proceed from the blacktop to the blue zone designated in their dismissal plan to meet their ride.
  • GRADES K-2
    • Families/caregivers of K-2 students must meet their child on the blacktop. If driving, parents/caregivers must park their vehicle and walk to the back of the school to meet their child(ren).However, if a K-2 student has a sibling in grades 3-5, the older student may meet the younger student to walk home or to accompany them to their ride in the designated Blue Zones at either the front or back of the school with parent permission as indicated on their dismissal plan.
  • KINDERGARTEN
    • Kindergarten students departing at 12:30 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday (in accordance with the A/B schedule) will be dismissed to the FRONT of the school to meet their parent/caregiver.
    • On Tuesdays and all 3:00 dismissal days (per A/B schedule), K students will be accompanied to the blacktop area at the BACK of the school to meet their parent/caregiver.
  • Families may conduct live pick-up of students in grades 3-5 (and K-2 students accompanied by a 3-5 sibling) in the designated Blue Zones at the front or back of the school. Live pick-up is when a driver pauses briefly in the Blue Zone to allow their child (ren) to enter the car and then continues to move through the line. Cars may not park or wait in blue zones in the time approaching dismissal and during dismissal time.
