4th Grade Parent/Child Book Discussion Group
Parents of 4th graders – do you and your kids like to read? Come and join the 4th Grade Parent/Child Book Group at the Auburndale Community Library! Children and parents will read an assigned book and meet once a month on Thursday evening from 6:30-7:30 pm for the discussion. Children will take turns to lead the discussion with a parent or a friend! The first meeting will be on 3/31/11. Please sign up by 3/18/11 so we can decide what the first book will be.

NewtonSTEM video is online
NewtonSTEM is a new organization of Newton parents, educators, students, and STEM professionals aiming to increase Newton students’ interest and abilities in science, technology, engineering, and math — both in school and in extracurricular activities. For those who were not able to attend the launch of NewtonSTEM last Monday, video coverage of the event — in 11 segments for more convenient viewing — is available at www.NewtonSTEM.org. Watertown Children’s Theatre presents Singin’ in the Rain LIVE
Watertown Children’s Theatre invites you to join us for a visit to the golden age of Hollywood, as we kick up our heels in the classic Singin’ in the Rain. Actors in grades 1-8, including Newton’s own Tatum Abbott, Ella Duchnowska, Evan Feldberg-Bannatyne, Liana Glennon, Caroline Hoban, Sam Hoban, Mena Lemos, Will McNally, Maggie Quigley, Allison Robbins, Charlotte Robbins, Grady Ryan, and Madeline Ventouris shine like the stars of old in this song and dance classic, directed by Erica Berman. Come and sing with us on Sunday April 17, from 4:30 to 5:45 pm at the Waban Library. No rehearsals, no performance, no pressure – just join us in singing because it’s fun! Our main source of lyrics will be the folk song collection Rise Up Singing, so make sure to bring it if it’s on your bookshelf (don’t worry if it’s not). This month’s book selection is William Cooper’s Town: Power and Persuasion on the Frontier of the Early American Republic by Alan Taylor. Focusing on William Cooper, father of James Fenimore Cooper and founder of Cooperstown, Alan Taylor has written a compelling and original social history of life and politics on the late 18th century New York frontier. Critically acclaimed, the book won both the Pulitzer Prize in History and the Bancroft Prize. The book club is free and open to the public. New members are always welcome.
