Multicultural Night

Multicultural Night has become one of the most enjoyable community events that we have at Williams.  It will take place on Thursday, May 27, from 6:00– 8:00 p.m.

When your family enters the building on May 27, you will get a “passport” and then travel through the school from “country to country.” As you visit each table, you will receive the appropriate flag sticker to put in your passport.

We are looking for families or groups of families who are interested in representing their ethnic and cultural backgrounds and/or countries of origin and hosting one of the tables.

The tables will be designed by the families who are running them; some ideas would be to have a poster with some facts about your country or culture, a game or craft project representing your country, and artifacts from your country, such as traditional clothing, a flag, or other items.
For example, if I were to run a table representing my Irish heritage:
  • I would make a poster telling some interesting things about Ireland.
  • I might bring in a hurling stick, as well as my children’s Irish dance shoes, and bouling balls (a form of outdoor bowling from Ireland).
  • I might have a craft project with a Coat of Arms for children to draw.
We are also looking for people who would be interested in performing a traditional song or dance for the Williams community on May 27.
We have such a rich and diverse community!  I am looking forward to learning from and celebrating with all of you!

Please send me an email (Midge_Connolly@newton.k12.ma.us) if you would like to host a table and/or to perform during the celebration.

We would like to ask all families to bring food to share that evening, whether or not you are hosting a table.  You could bring a dish that reflects your ethnic or cultural background or country of origin, or simply one of your family’s favorites! Be thinking about what specialties you might like to share.

Best,
