On Wednesday Feb. 17th at the Burlington Mall from 12-6pm, we are holding an open talent call and a free coaching clinic for kids ages 10-18. They can pre-register on our site or just show up, and participants will do a 60 second read off our teleprompter(sports, entertainment or news scripts), and receive a flash drive copy of their appearance on camera. Young Broadcasters of America instructors, Bob Halloran of WCVB TV 5, former voice of the Red Sox Jerry Trupiano, 96.9 FM Talk Jimmy Myers, The Sports Hub’s, and Comcast Sports Net Gary Tanguay will all be on hand to give coaching on the spot, and talk about the industry. JOIN THE CAST OF BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Join the cast of Beauty and the Beast, the spring youth theatre production for children ages 8-12 at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC. Filled with fun costumes and music, the show allows children of all abilities to be part of this Broadway classic. Rehearsals take place on Sundays from 3-5:30pm beginning February 28. Everyone gets a part and the show is open to the entire community. Participants learn all elements of creating a musical theatre production including acting, choreography, voice, singing and set design. Performance date is Sunday, June 13. Cost: $425. The Healing Power of Music: The Mind/Body/Spirit Connection
The Newton Symphony Orchestra (NSO) presents The Healing Power of Music: The Mind/Body/Spirit Connection, a two-day event focused on the belief that music has the power to transform lives—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. On Saturday, February 27th, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., the NSO hosts a Wellness Fair in Stoddard Hall on the campus of the Andover Newton Theological School/Hebrew College, 210 Herrick Road, Newton Center. The fair will include lectures and workshops by a wide range of noted experts in the field, speaking on topics ranging from music therapy to stress management to research on the positive effects of music for the elderly; and an exhibit hall of Boston area health and wellness organizations.
Haiti – The Land and The People
Join us on Wednesday, February, 24, 2010 at 7:30 pm at the Auburndale Community Library as we take a look at the land and people of Haiti. You will get a sense of the frenetic pace of life in the capital city of Port au Prince. Then, we will visit Z’Oranje, a mountain village with no electricity, no plumbing, no kitchens, no doctors or nurses, and until recently, no school. You will see a series of projected photos taken over a six year period by our presenter, Ned Schofield, as he traveled with a group that partnered in the building of this new school. We will touch on Haiti’s history, geography, politics, and religion. Haitian music, arts, and crafts will be on display. Come and see the truth in the Haitian proverb, “What the eye doesn’t see, does not move the heart.”

2010 Environmental Art Contest for Newton Students in Grades K-5
The Green Decade/Newton 2010 Environmental Art Contest is open to all students who live or go to school in Newton, grades K-5. The theme is “How My School Is Helping Newton Go Green” and submission deadline is Monday, March 15, 2010. Grades K-5 can enter posters in teams of 4-6 students; grades 3-5 also have the option of submitting individual artwork. Mayor Setti Warren will present the awards to winners and certificates to all participants on Thursday, April 8. All art entries will be exhibited in the rotunda at City Hall in late April-early May.
