Disney’s A Christmas Carol Train Tour, will be coming to Boston ‘s South Station September 25-27th.  The tour features four custom-designed vintage rail cars full of behind-the-scenes attractions, entertaining demonstrations, and fun activities for guests of all ages. Among the highlights of the tour are authentic artifacts on loan from the Charles Dickens Museum of London; artwork, costumes and props from the film; demonstrations of performance capture technology; and a chance to morph your face into one of the film’s characters using HP TouchSmart PCs.  Plus, a state-of-the-art Disney Digital 3D Theatre will be erected on Dewey Square Plaza (part of the Rose Kennedy Greenway), where guests can get a sneak peek at footage from “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” and see other exclusive behind-the-scenes materials from the movie. There will be exciting giveaways and surprises, and Radio Disney will invite kids to enter for a chance to become a Movie Surfer representing their hometown. This family event is for guests of all ages and is free to the public.

Sunday, September 27, 2 pm – HISTORIC NEWTON WALKS. This walk around West Newton will branch away from the village center to include important sites from the area’s African-American community. Dating back to the 1600s, this vibrant population carved out a space from which they asserted their civil and religious rights. The tour will meet at Captain John Ryan Park on the corner of Washington and Cherry Streets. Free.

Tuesday, September 29, 7:30 pm – HISTORY BOOK CLUB  The book club will meet for its bimonthly discussion of a work of social history. This meeting’s selection is Generations of Captivity: A History of African-American Slaves by Ira Berlin. In this book, Berlin traces the history of African-American slavery in the United States from its beginnings in the seventeenth century to its fiery demise nearly three hundred years later. The book club is free and new members are always welcome.
