Dear Williams Community,
I do hope you all are enjoying your summer now that the sun has begun to make an appearance! There is still a lot of time left before school begins on September 8, 2009, but I wanted to get some information out to you as we get closer to the beginning of the school year.
Class Configurations
The class configuration has been set for this school year. There will be three kindergartens and two classes for all other grade levels. Class placement letters will be mailed across the city on August 28, 2009.
Kindergarten: Brett Aronne, Irene Incutto/Nicole MacDonald, Shannon Dickerson
Grade one: Rick Jacobson, Ann Marie Osiecki
Grade two: Jen Ortega, Tom Joyce
Grade three: Rick Jette, Monica Matrisciano
Grade four: Amanda Kanode/Kristine Black, Diane Lehman
Grade five: Beth Shilalie, Sarah Wall
School Visit
On Thursday, September 3, 2009, children are invited to visit their classrooms accompanied by an adult, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. These are very busy days for teachers, so if you plan to visit, it can only be done during this hour on the 3rd.
Dining Hall/Cafeteria
There will also be some changes in the dining hall/cafeteria this year. As many of you know, cafeteria workers across the system have been virtually eliminated. We have maintained our cafeteria manager and one lunch attendant. They will be joined by at least one classroom aide for each lunch. In addition, we are pleased to announce that a Northeastern co-op student will be with us for the fall and another student will be assigned to Williams in the spring. Both students will be designated to the dining hall/cafeteria during lunches.
Title I
Unfortunately, Title I funds across the city have been reduced which means a loss to Williams of all funding from this particular source. What this will look like for our school is the overall reduction in the number of classroom aide time as well as the end of Title I programs that the school was able to support last year. It is our hope that we will be funded next year as the programs and personnel had a positive impact on the Williams School. Let me be clear; we did not lose “people” just a lot of hours of service and programs.
Please enjoy the rest of your summer and I will see some of you on the 3rd, and the rest on September 8, 2009!
Best,
Dr. Midge Connolly
